Smith wins amateur title at QLD PGA Championship

Queensland's Cameron Smith finished the Cellarbrations Qld PGA Championship at Toowoomba's City Golf Club as the highest ranked amateur.

The State Junior Team member posted rounds of 72, 67, 64 and 66 to finish the tournament 11 under par and tied in 11th place. New Zealander professional Gareth Paddison claimed the title after shooting rounds of 67, 67, 62 and 66 to finish 18-under par.

Smith kicked off the tournament playing in one of the marquee groups with PGA professionals Craig Parry and Matthew Griffin who both finished the weekend at 9-under par.

At 17 years old, Smith is the current Queensland Stroke Play Champion and was named the 2010 Australian Golf Digest Junior Player of the Year.

Golf Queensland QAS member Tim Hart also made the cut finishing the Championship with rounds of 72, 66, 70 and 67 to post 5-under par for the tournament.

Eight Queensland amateurs teed off in the Championship with Smith and Hart the only players to qualify for the weekend rounds.
